    Hands-on Learning in Criminal Justice

Protect the public – enforce laws, pursue justice, or even work behind the scenes in an investigative lab. Your Wayne State degree can lead to careers in law enforcement, corrections, probation and parole, court services, asset protection, corporate and private security, and juvenile justice. You’ll study the various environments in which the criminal justice system operates, giving you flexibility to apply your degree to a variety of careers.

Criminal Justice Crime Scene Investigation Facility

Wayne State’s crime scene and forensics lab provides a variety of academic experiences, from managing hostage situations and active shooter scenarios, to crime scene investigation and emergency management exercises. Our crime scene investigation experiences include bloodstain spatter analysis, fingerprint acquisition, firearm trajectories, shoeprint casings, and processing crime scenes with DNA evidence.

    Online Criminal Justice Degree
Our online criminal justice program is for those working in the field who want to obtain a four-year degree, but need to fit higher education into a busy schedule. Our flexible program is the most affordable in the region.

    Forensic Science pathway

You can pair the disciplines of criminal justice and chemistry at Wayne State. Forensic science is the application of science to the law, using scientific methodology to collect and analyze evidence in an investigation. It requires an extensive background in the natural sciences, coupled with practical laboratory experience, all which students can gain at Wayne State College’s Criminal Justice Crime Scene Investigation Facility. Through the study of forensic science, you’ll combine different aspects of science – natural, lab, and social – to prepare for a career related to crime scenes and investigation. You'll graduate with a criminal justice degree AND a chemistry degree from Wayne State.

What I like most about here at Wayne State with the CJ program is the opportunity it's given me to broaden my learning experiences, and especially here at the CJ house that you can't find this anywhere else. It's a very unique experience. The facility gives the students an opportunity to really experience what it's like to truly walk into a crime scene and not just see it, but actually work it. We take pictures. We process for fingerprints. We collect DNA. We collect evidence. We package it, and we write reports on it just like you would in the field. It's all that hands-on learning that you just really don't get in a classroom setting. The most I like about the CJ program is the opportunity and then experience I get. Most of the professor's have some background in criminal justice or law enforcement, such as being a lawyer, or being in the police force, or a forensic investigator. First time, I realized myself that I took the perfect choice to study forensic science was the first time I walked in the crime house at Wayne State College. The hands-on experience in my education has been perfect. It's a new perspective in my education, because you always learn from paper and just in class, but in field experience-- it's better. The students that I've experienced at Wayne State, you can really tell that they have a passion for what they're learning. They come to class, they're ready to learn, and they want to be in class. And they're motivated. You can tell they're driven and it's the type of student that once they graduate, they're going to make it. It's going to be good.
