    Urban to Rural Life

Meet Abby Janousek of Omaha, Nebraska, and David Ktoba of Dallas, Texas.

While Wayne State hardly boasts the population of either of these urban centers, Abby and David still found plenty to do in and out of the classroom to adjust to their new rural life.

Abby has found a home with her sorority, her friends in the Science Education program, and in her role as a Resident Assistant in Bowen Hall.

Abby also enjoys visiting downtown Wayne for shopping, movies, or a quick cup of coffee.

David has found small-college life still offers plenty of big opportunities, such as his job with Wayne State’s Network and Technology Services department servicing hardware while working toward his Computer Science and Web Analyst degree.

Both say the Wayne community has made them feel right at home.

    • WSC is only 30 minutes from Norfolk, Nebraska, and 45 minutes from Sioux City, Iowa. Both cities have all of the shopping and restaurants you need for a break from studying.
    • Omaha is less than 2 hours away if you need to spend some time in a big city.
    • Check out what it’s like to live on campus (link to www.wsc.edu/campus_life).

Coming from Dallas, my only concerns were getting, you know, use a different environment and come from big cities was really different the first few months, but the Wayne community was very welcoming. So I felt right at home.

There's so many things like off campus that you can do. We have so many antique stores. There's a coffee shop, and there's so many places to eat off campus, as well as we do have a movie theater, $5 movies. There's just so many things that you can do on and off campus that you never really get bored.

It's just overall, a really good place to be on, especially if you want a smaller college feel. Wayne is small, but also big at the same time so you get all the experience in one.

I've been able to make so many relationships with people and be so involved on campus, that when I talk to someone that goes to a big university, they look at me and they're like, how do you have the time for that? But just being involved is amazing. And honestly coming from [INAUDIBLE] a small town is the best decision I ever made in my life, because it's building the experiences that I wouldn't get anywhere else.
