What I like most about studying Social Studies Education here at Wayne State is that it's really hands-on program. So even from day one in your beginning education classes, you're really getting quite hands-on education. You start teaching little lessons to your classmates, even in the first class. That's something that really stuck out to me, and I really enjoyed it so far. I knew I wanted to be a teacher for a very long time. I didn't decide until I was about a senior in high school, and I got to take some extra social studies classes. When I toured Wayne State, I just fell more in love with the program when I saw what they could do here. Whether it's service learning projects, hands-on classroom projects for our [INAUDIBLE] program where you get to go out and get a substitute teacher. All three of those have really given me major opportunities. As soon as I got in the class and started teaching, it all just felt like a breeze. I think the biggest thing that I like about being in the elementary education program is getting a chance to be with the kids, inspire them, and get out into the field, and getting a chance to actually put to use what we've learned. Throughout my time at Wayne State, I think about every semester I've been here-- There has been some type of service learning project. Each semester, we would go to either a classroom or kids would come to us in our classes. I got the chance to go over to Wakefield and do about 40 hours of in classroom learning. I got to observe a teacher, who is actually in the classroom and I got to actually teach the students. It was a kind of-- the moment where I was like, Yep, this is what's for me.
