I chose Wayne State College because I play volleyball and I got a scholarship. But I knew that this school was one of the best education schools. I knew I wanted to be a teacher from literally the day I was born. My dad was a gym teacher, so I grew up around that. And so I knew that this place was gonna be my home for the next four or five years.
Classes here are pretty small which is great, because you get that one-on-one connection with your teachers. I've had so many teachers that are now like my mentors, and I wouldn't be here without them. As a freshman, it was very nerve wracking. But just with my team, and just the people around here, they're nice, they care about you, and they want you to succeed. So I think the people here are a reason why I stayed and continue to stay. One of the things I'm most proud of here at Wayne State is my GPA, I have a 4.0. And I don't think I would be here or have a 4.0 if it wasn't for my teachers.
My favorite things to do on campus-- they have a lot of activities throughout the year. Um, like during Christmas, we have things like in the Student Center. We get a build like stuffed animals and sometimes they have like photo booths that we can do. So they have like a lot of fun activities that we can do throughout the year. I feel Wayne State has prepared me for my career because of the hands-on learning. [Inaudible] just added labs for us so we can do... kind of be in a position of being children in a way. Also, they prepare us by having our practicum so each practicum you get 40 hours, and then your special education practicum you get 100.
With my Wayne State degree, I hope to go back to Omaha and hopefully get a special education job in Millard or Elkhorn. I have grown as a person at Wayne State because they give me the opportunities to be the best teacher I can be. Volleyball and school, it's very challenging. But I think the biggest thing that has gotten me through it are the professors. If I communicate with them, they are so understanding. They understand that I'm going to be gone on a Thursday and Friday and they communicate with me and stay in touch and they care. They really do care.
